Description of Remembering Lauren

After a brutal attack in the city leaves her scarred, Nikki Freeman flees to the sleepy little town of Glenwood, Florida for a chance to regroup and find peace again. Small town living brings challenges of its own and she struggles to find her place in this deep rooted community. What she doesn’t count on is discovering Glenwood has a few not-so-sunny secrets hidden in its recent history.

Encouraged by her new friends and haunted by her past, Nikki delves into the mystery of a young girl who vanished seven years earlier, the night before Prom. Had she not survived her own attacker, would she have been forgotten as well? As her investigation leads to unexpected places, she’s forced to ask herself just how much she’ll risk to find a stranger.

My Review of Remembering Lauren

What a thrilling read!

Misha Jordan has written a wonderful mystery/thriller! (In my humble opinion) You must have guessed that I liked the book a lot by my five star rating. (I don’t give five stars very often)

This novel is one that will be enjoyed by people who like a good mystery. Right from the very beginning when we find out that Lauren Weston’s disappearance has gone unsolved for seven years we know that Nikki is going to find out what happened. The author has us wanting her to succeed because we feel awful for all of the injustices Nikki has had to bear in her life. We like her too. She is a sweet, kind hearted young woman. She may be a little naive or delusional at times, but that just adds to her charm.

This story will also keep the crime thriller readers engrossed right up to the final chapter. I figure the author’s police background will keep those who like to know all of the particulars involved in solving a crime interested. The details are slowly revealed over the course of the novel like a bread crumb trail leading us to the treasure at the end. Or in this case the answer to “What happened to Lauren”?

For me though, I appreciate the well thought out plot. The plot points were perfectly placed to keep the suspense at just the right pace.

The characters were very well developed. I could totally picture this tight knit group of friends. The dynamics of the personalities within the group of friends played an important role in the story.

If you love a good mystery/thriller you owe it to yourself to give this one a try. Let me know what you think. I always love to hear readers opinions on the books I review.

Description of Where There’s Smoke

She’s a smoke-jumper afraid of fire…

Kate Burns is a legendary smoke jumper, known for her courage and willingness to risk everything to get the job done. Only she has a secret, one she won’t admit to anyone.

He can’t forget the love they once shared…

Supervisor Jed Ransom commands the Jude County Smoke Jumpers with a reputation as a calm, level-headed leader. Kate is the only one who’s ever gotten under his skin.

They must face the flames together…

A raging wildfire in the mountains of Montana brings Kate and Jed together to train up a new team of jumpers. Suddenly, they must face the past they’ve been running from and the secrets that keep them apart. When an arsonist goes after their team, Kate and Jed must face their deepest fears—and learn to rely on each other as they fight a blaze that could destroy them all.

In this first book of the Montana Fire: Summer of Fire trilogy, Kate and Jed are about to discover that where there’s smoke, there just might be a chance to start again.

My review of Where There’s Smoke

Where There’s Smoke is the first book in the Montana Fire Series, by Susan May Warren. I love her writing and am always anxious to get her newest novels. They never disappoint.

This book is about Kate and Jed letting go of the lies and fear they have been living with and having faith that God loves them and has better plans for them than they can even imagine.

We find Kate stationed at Jed’s base. She has a secret that she hopes no one on base has heard about. She is supposed to train the new smoke-jumper recruits.

A blast from her past, Jed, is the supervisor in charge of the whole base and he is not so happy when Kate shows up. Sparks fly.
The characters in this book are wonderful. Even the supporting characters have a lot of depth to them.
The setting is described beautifully. I can just picture the Montana mountains from the descriptions.
The suspense pulls you through to the very end and leaves you wishing the story wasn’t over.
I think this will be a great series and am looking forward to the next book.

Pick it up and let me know what you think. I hope you like it as much as I did.

…except the woman he loves. After all, Sierra Rose is his amazing assistant, a woman who helps him hold his empire together, leaving him free to pursue his adventurous hobbies—his only distraction from his excruciating past… until now. Sierra Rose harbors a terrible secret…

…the fact that Ian’s favorite niece and ward, Esme, just might elope with her less-than-awesome boyfriend. Sierra’s made a promise to Esme—but her first loyalty belongs to her boss Ian, the man she’s admired for years. But letting herself fall in love with him risks the best job she’s ever had.

When tragedy strikes, sparks ignite…

…because Esme has vanished. Ian fears the worst–has she run away with her boyfriend? Or, has something more sinister happened in the wilds of Glacier National Park? It’s a race against time, with Sierra and Ian caught in the crossfire of secrets, regrets and what-ifs.

My Review of If Ever I Would Leave You

This looks like it is going to be a great series.

Ian is the billionaire rancher who has everything, but we can tell he is searching for something by the daredevil, thrill seeking adventures he pursues.

His assistant, Sierra, is trying her best to keep things on a professional level.

Ian is doing his best to let Sierra know he would like for there to be more to their relationship than just work.

Throw in both of them working together to find Ian’s missing teenage niece, Esme and you have the jist of what this book is about. This book is a prequel to the Montana Rescue Series so I’m guessing that there will be search and rescue teams in this series.  I know I can’t wait to see what Susie has in store for us in this series.

Description of A Love Transformed

When Clara Vesper’s husband, Adolph, dies suddenly, Clara is stunned–but not grief-stricken. Her marriage to Adolph had been arranged, their primary interaction revolving around the sapphire jewelry Clara designed and Adolph produced and sold. Widowed and penniless, with two small children, Clara decides to return to her aunt and uncle’s ranch in Montana, the only place she has ever been happy.

Curtis Billingham, injured in a sapphire mine collapse, is recuperating at the ranch of his friends, Paul and Madeline Sersland. But when the Serslands’ niece returns from New York City, Curtis curses both his broken body and his broken past. Clara, the love of his life, has come back to him, but he is no longer worthy of her love.

Clara’s brother-in-law Otto Vesper, Adolph’s business partner, fears that the loss of Clara’s design skills will doom the company’s prospects. Following her to Montana, Otto is prepared to do whatever it takes to get Clara to return with him to New York.

As Clara fights for love and freedom, a dangerous secret in her late husband’s life comes to light, threatening everyone she loves.

My Review of A Love Transformed

This last book in the Sapphire Brides series is fantastic. I know you hear all the time, “I couldn’t put it down” but, I really couldn’t. I stopped to fix my husband lunch and supper and that was about it. Praise the Lord he had football and NASCAR to watch all day.

These characters are so believable! I love the name Clara. It was my sweet mother’s name. I felt so bad for Clara. Here she was in a loveless marriage (as if that isn’t bad enough) then her husband is murdered, and she is left penniless and indebted to her husband’s twin brother.

I can understand her wanting to get out of New York and away from her mother and her brother in law. Pretty brave of her to have the servants help her and her twin four year olds escape to Montana undetected by her mother.

The way the setting is described in Montana makes me feel like I am really there, seeing all of this through Clara’s eyes. The flashbacks to when she used to spend summers on the Montana ranch with her aunt and uncle are beautifully done.

This is a book you need to read. I don’t want to tell too much of the plot and spoil it for you. This story is one of two people learning to turn everything over to God and wait on Him and not take everything into their own hands. It is a beautiful story of redemption.

Give this book a try and let me know how you like it. Thank you to Bethany House Publishers for sending me a copy to review.

The Best Homemade Tomato Soup

September 12, 2016

4 tablespoons butter

1 onion, finely diced ( I put mine in the food processor and pulse a couple of times)

1 garlic clove, minced

28 oz. crushed tomatos

3 cups chicken stock (vegetable stock can be used)

1/4 cup heavy cream

Fresh Basil

Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion and cook until the onion is transparent (about 3 -4 minutes) Add tomatoes (I use Cento brand, but any will work) add chicken stock, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. Bring to a boil and lower temp. and simmer for 15 min. Stir in cream, then label into bowls. Garnish with fresh basil.

I love to serve grilled cheese sandwiches with my tomato soup. Not a necessity but the two go good together.
