Description of The Promise Of Dawn
Beloved Author Lauraine Snelling Launches New Immigrant Series
When Signe, her husband, Rune, and their three boys arrive in Minnesota from Norway to help a relative clear his land of lumber, they dream of owning their own farm and building a life in the New World. But Uncle Einar and Aunt Gird are hard, demanding people, and Signe and her family soon find themselves worked nearly to the bone in order to repay the cost of their voyage. At this rate, they will never have land or a life of their own.
Signe tries to trust God but struggles with anger and bitterness. She has left behind the only life she knew, and while it wasn’t an easy life, it wasn’t as hard as what she now faces. When a new addition to the family arrives, Signe begins to see how God has been watching over them throughout their ordeal. But after all that has happened, can she still believe in the promise of a bright future?
My review of The Promise Of Dawn
I have loved Lauraine Snelling’s stories for quite a while now. When Bethany House Publisher’s offered me a copy of this book, I was thrilled! I am so glad that there is to be another series of books about immigrants from Norway coming to America to start a new life.
This book starts with Uncle Einar requesting help from relatives in Norway. He is a logger in Minnesota. His wife, Gerd is bedridden and he has no children to help him.
Signe and Rune along with their three son’s agree to travel to America to help his uncle. They hope to make a better life for their family in America.
The conditions at Uncle Einar’s place are worse than Signe even imagined. Tired and worn out from the voyage and cross country trip Signe is faced with challenges she is not sure she is equippped to handle. She questions God and and His wisdom in sending them into these circumstances.
I love historical fiction, so this book was a delight to read. I love reading about the people who came into an area and tamed it, no matter the hardships they faced. Signe and Rune are people who had a dream and worked hard to make that dream come true. I look forward to reading the other books to come in this series.
I hope you pick up a copy of this book and enjoy it as much as I did.
